Abstract

This panel gathers contributions that focus on the fundamental aspects of representation, the representativeness of interest groups, and the legitimacy of their activities. Research questions explore, among other things, the concept of throughput legitimacy of interest group participation in policymaking, the challenges of representing future generations and marginalized groups, and the identification of constituencies when interest group activities occur on social media. The role of technology and media, and how interest groups influence their use, serves as a common thread connecting many of the panel's contributions.
