Central European Presidents, Governments, and Foreign Policy

Abstract

One of the most important areas of presidential activity is foreign policy. The panel focuses on the presidents of Central European countries and their interactions with prime ministers and governments in this area. Its design combines a look at the formal powers of presidents with the often very colourful political realities. The panel's purpose is to debate intra-executive conflicts, their origins, causes, and consequences, but more generally, cooperation or a selected aspect (or aspects) within foreign policy. Some papers also reflect the European dimension of foreign policy.
