Abstract

When do electoral systems change and how do institutional set-ups affect party systems, party factionalism and the partisan control of government? All contributions in this panel enrich our knowledge of how electoral institutions systematically shape the behavior of political actors. Grounded in rational choice institutionalism, the studies discuss the generalizability of the rationality assumption and its limitations.
