European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)

You can earn one ECTS credit for 25–30 hours' work. This equates to up to four credits for a one-week Main Course, eight credits for a two-week Main Course or six credits for a one-week Advanced Workshop.

On successful completion of the required work, and following receipt of your grades from the Instructor, CEU will send you details of their credits.

In addition to ECTS credits, everyone who attends 90% of course classes will receive a certificate of attendance, provided they sign the attendance sheets.

Instructors can award two credits per course, on completion of the required work. Further credits can be given if you complete the additional tasks specified in the course outline, and if the credits have been approved by the Instructor and an Academic Convenor.

If you want to earn credits, tell your Instructor on the first day of the course when you sign the attendance sheet in class.

Tasks

The task(s) to be assessed by the Instructor and required to acquire credits are listed below, and must be graded.

  1. In-class project
  2. Presentations
  3. Daily assignments. No extensive feedback is promised on daily assignments. The Academic Convenors recommend grading them on the following scale, averaged to get the final grade:
    • 1 good
    • 0.66 sufficient
    • 0.33 insufficient
    • 0 did not submit
  4. Take-home exam / paper

Instructors will make at least two of these four options available. For take-home assignments, the Instructor will set a deadline no later than three weeks after the end of the course.

Grading scale

The grid below is the CEU grading scale. The Political Science Department, Summer School hosts, use a system of letter grades and grade points for evaluating participants’ work, including the thesis, according to the grading scheme of the University. The various letter grades can be translated to a 100-point scale of grade points:

Grade Name Grade points Performance
A Outstanding 4 94 – 100%
A- Excellent 3.66 87 – 93.99%
B+ Good 3.33 80 – 86.99%
