Practical Information

About the University of Lausanne

The University of Lausanne is a higher teaching and research institution composed of seven faculties where approximately 14,300 students and 3,000 researchers work and study. UNIL is focused on several academic disciplines, especially Medicine, Life Sciences, Geosciences, Environment, Business, Humanities and Social Sciences.  An emphasis is placed on an interdisciplinary approach, with close cooperation between students, teaching staff, and professors.

Travelling to the University from the train station

Getting to the University of Lausanne (UNIL) from the Lausanne train station is best done by taking the metro. From the main entrance of the train station (on north side of train station, near track 1), you will cross the street to access the M2 metro at the station “Lausanne-Gare”. Take the M2 (direction: Croisettes) for one stop (descend at “Lausanne-Flon”). Take the stairs or elevator up one floor to switch to the other metro line, the M1 (direction: Renens-Gare) and travel six stops to “UNIL-Dorigny” to go to the Anthropole building, or 7 stops to “Unil-Mouline” to go to the Géopolis building. It takes approximately 20 minutes to go from Lausanne main train station to the campus.

For further information, see the public transportation website.

Most hotels provide free day travel cards for their customers valid for public transportation, make sure to ask your hotel's front desk if they offer this service.

Conference Location

The conference will take place in two buildings, Géopolis and Anthropole located within the campus of the University of Lausanne (UNIL).

Anthropole is located next to the “Unil-Dorigny” metro stop.

Géopolis is located next to the “Unil-Mouline” metro stop.

It will take you approximately 8 minutes to go from one building to the other.

To find conference room in each building, please see interactive plan of UNIL.

Coffee and Lunch

Coffee and tea will be provided in designated areas during the breaks. Both Anthropole and Géopolis feature a cafeteria on the first floor open from 07:30-17:30 (except Saturdays and Sundays). Both cafeterias accept Swiss Francs or Euros (only change/banknotes no credit card).

Lunch is included in the Conference Fee and can be obtained from Géopolis or from Unithèque. All participants will be provided with lunch vouchers that they can use to obtain lunch at the two cafeterias.

It is a short walk through campus (8 minutes) to get from the conference buildings to Unithèque.
